Two injured when cars crash into apartment

SAN JOSE — Police are working to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in an early-morning collision that resulted in two cars slamming into portions of an apartment complex in Willow Glen, authorities said.

At about 1:23 a.m., San Jose police responded to a report of an injury traffic collision in the 100 block of Meridian Avenue, according to Officer Gina Tepoorten. Based on their preliminary investigation, police said a man was driving a white Honda Accord north on Meridian approaching Willow Street when he rear-ended a black Volkswagen sedan.

Both vehicles lost control and “collided with portions of an apartment complex,” Tepoorten said.

The female driver of the Volkswagen was not injured, but a male passenger was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, Tepoorten said. The driver of the Honda was also taken to a hospital for an injury not considered life-threatening.

No residents of the apartment complex were injured.

The investigation is on-going and officers are attempting to determine if alcohol or drugs may have contributed to the crash,  police said.
