Sharks winning streak ends in Dallas

DALLAS — The hope of two-straight win vanished quickly after the Sharks found a way to shoot themselves in the foot again.

The Dallas Stars scored three unanswered goals late in the game, ending the Sharks brief winning streak with a 3-2 win at American Airlines Center Friday.

The Stars tied it up in the second by capitalizing on a slow Sharks line change. After Karlsson flipped the puck into the Stars zone, former-Shark Roman Polak backhanded it back up through the neutral zone, springing Mattias Janmark on a breakaway chance that he buried on Martin Jones’ blocker side.

Then, Miro Heiskanen put the Stars ahead 2-1 at 4:38 of the third, beating Jones with a shot through traffic. Brett Ritchie took advantage of a two-on-one chance after Marc-Edouard Vlasic fell in the neutral zone less than two minutes later, giving the Stars a two-goal cushion.

Evander Kane opened the scoring at 9:22 of the first, scoring just his second goal in 12 games off a nifty-seam pass from Erik Karlsson on a 4-on-2 rush. Logan Couture scored the Sharks second goal, redirecting a shot by Karlsson.

Jones made 27 saves in the losing effort.

Joe Thortnton tied the guy who inspired him to wear No. 19 — Steve Yzerman — for 18th place on the NHL’s all-time games played list, suiting for game No. 1,514.
