Raiders re-sign return man Dwayne Harris

The Raiders have re-signed return man/wide receiver Dwayne Harris, the team announced Monday.

Harris was an unrestricted free agent, and had arguably the best play of the Raiders’ season last year when he returned a Broncos punt 99 yards for a touchdown in what, at the time, most thought would be the last game in Oakland.

Harris’ savvy move to pick up the ball on his own goal line after it had been touched by the Broncos, but not downed, was the Raiders’ first punt returned for a touchdown since 2008.

Harris tied for the league lead with 14.1 yards per punt return (20 returns for 281 yards), and finished the season as one of only seven players with one punt returned for a touchdown. His 14.1 average stands as the second-best single-season mark for punt returns in Raiders history. Harris’ 22.9 yards per kickoff return average (663 yards on 29 returns) ranked 10th in the NFL.

Harris won two AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors, and he caught six passes for 40 yards as a sparsely used receiver.

He also showed up to sign his new contract in style.
