Taylor Swift dropped by the Ellen show for a rare sit-down interview on Wednesday afternoon (May 15), where the superstar discussed cats, her upcoming seventh album and all the Easter eggs she’s been hinting for fans.
The interview was far from the “ME!” singer’s first time on the show. Since her first appearance in 2008, she’s chatted with DeGeneres about all her albums and all the guys she’s dated. She’s also been scared a few times by the host, an infamous prankster.
See below for every time Swift has appeared on Ellen — yes, including the interview she mentioned was her “most rebellious” teen moment, in which she called out Joe Jonas for breaking up with her “over the phone in 25 seconds.”

An 18-year-old Swift made her Ellen debut after “Teardrops on My Guitar,” the smash hit off her 2006 self-titled album, skyrocketed in popularity. The fresh-faced teen talked about getting a songwriting job at Sony/ATV at the age of 14 and moving to Nashville.
By the end of that same year, Swift dropped her mega-popular album, Fearless, which featured “You Belong With Me,” “Love Story” and, of course, “Forever & Always” inspired by Jonas. She talked about her side of the breakup story on Ellen, and also met her crush Justin Timberlake.
Following her first headlining tour, Swift brought Ellen her five-time platinum plaque as a joking thanks for throwing her album release party. She also talked about meeting Stevie Wonder at Mr. Chow, her film debut Valentine’s Day and Taylor Lautner, who she was rumored to be dating at the time.
Tay fell victim to Ellen’s characteristic scares on the show, getting surprised by a green dinosaur. “Why do you do that?” Swift hilariously shouts at the host.
Swift discussed being in the public eye, noting that “it’s obnoxious to complain about anything.” In a particularly swee moment, she took the time to surprise her biggest fan with VIP tickets to her Speak Now tour.
In a now well-known segment, Swift and Ellen sat down for a “serious” interview to balance out all the laughs they’ve had. The clip is hilariously awkward, with discussions on how often the pop star showers and “her time in prison,” a question meant for T.I.
Swift’s third appearance on the show that year celebrated her honor of winning Billboard’s Woman of the Year. The two discussed her perfume, Wonderstruck, and a general discussion on boys. “I for real don’t have a boyfriend. I sit by myself and watch Law & Order,” she explained.
Zac Efron and Taylor had a joint interview to promote The Lorax, where they revealed that the songstress gave Efron his first guitar lesson. Efron then shows the audience how he learned to play “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People, with new lyrics dedicated to Ellen.
After discussing her new fear or earwigs, a bug with pinchers, Ellen naturally decided to scare Swift with a crew member dressed as an earwig to help her “get over her fear.”
Swift was just about to release 1989, and performed “Out of the Woods” and “Shake It Off” on the show. She talked about her Rolling Stone cover and her secret album listening sessions.
Swift returned to Ellen for the first time in five years following the release of her upcoming album’s first single, “ME!” She talked about Brendon Urie, her new kitten Benjamin Button, and that the French speaking in the beginning of the “ME!” video means something related to the upcoming album.
