Ready for the Big One? Lucy Jones and Mayor of LA Want City to Be Prepared

The Mayor of Los Angeles and earthquake expert Lucy Jones were holding a news conference Friday afternoon to announce what efforts would be taken to increase disaster preparedness across the city.

Following back-to-back Fourth of July quakes at magnitudes 6.4 and 7.1, many in Southern California, particularly the Trona and in some San Bernardino towns, scrambled to get to the grocery store to stock up on water and supplies in the event of an even bigger temblor.

Seismologist reminded Twitter users that while a number of large magnitude quakes will be a constant in the region, including the magnitude-4.9 that rattled Friday morning, but residents should still be ready.

Updates to come following the 1:45 p.m. PST news conference.
