Arrest made FoodMaxx parking lot killing in San Jose

SAN JOSE — A 42-year-old man was arrested in the Central Valley city of Ceres over the weekend in connection with a shooting death in a FoodMaxx parking lot.

Robert Eugene Styre of San Jose is the suspect in the Friday afternoon slaying, police said.

Officers were called about 12:40 p.m. for reports of a person found lying in the parking lot, San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten said. They arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He later died at a hospital. His name hasn’t been released.

Following the shooting, San Jose police homicide detectives identified Styre as the suspect, learned he had connections to Stanislaus County and alerted law enforcement agencies there about him.

Early Saturday morning, a police officer in Ceres stopped a car believed associated with Styre, according to police. He was arrested without incident, handed over to San Jose police and then booked into Santa Clara County main jail for murder.

Anyone with information about the case can contact Detective Sgt. Anthony Kilmer or Detective Ted Reckas in the SJPD homicide unit at 408-277-5283 or leave a tip with Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP or at svcrimestoppers.org.
