SF Giants planning surprises for Bruce Bochy’s last week

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants will host the Dodgers for the final series of the season at Oracle Park this weekend, but the rivalry games will take a backseat to other end-of-year festivities.

The Giants are planning to hold ceremonies on each of the last three days of the season, with the largest coming on Sunday when the franchise honors Bruce Bochy before, during and after the final game of his 25-year managerial career.

The organization is not revealing a formal guest list for Sunday’s game, but it is expected that many of Bochy’s former players and coaches will travel to Oracle Park for the season finale. The Giants have reached out to two-time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum to see if he’s interested in partaking in Sunday’s festivities, but it is unclear whether they have received a RSVP from one of Bochy’s all-time favorite players.

Lincecum hasn’t been at the ballpark since he last pitched for the club in 2015.

Most of Sunday’s celebration is expected to take place after the game, but the Giants announced they’re planning the “loudest foghorn salute the City of San Francisco and beyond has ever heard,” prior to first pitch. Ferries, kayaks, and cruise ships will park in McCovey Cove to add to the foghorn call.

Bochy will also be honored pregame on Saturday as the manager will receive a key to the City of San Francisco from Mayor London Breed along with former mayors Art Agnos, Frank Jordan and Willie Brown.

During recent Giants games, broadcaster Duane Kuiper has also referred to other “special surprises” in the works for Sunday’s game on recent telecasts. Ahead of Bochy’s final flight with the club, the Giants’ entire traveling party donned “#ThankYouBoch” shirts and wore size 8 1/8-inch hats.

The Giants will also honor Peter Magowan, the managing general partner of the franchise from 1993-2008, with a Wall of Fame ceremony outside Oracle Park on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Magowan died on January 27, 2019 and the club has worn black patches with the name “Peter” on its jerseys this season.

As is tradition, the Giants will present the 2019 Willie Mac Award in a pregame ceremony before the last Friday home game of the season. The Giants host the Dodgers at 7:15 on Friday and the Willie Mac Award winner, given annually to the team’s most inspirational player, will be announced around 6:45 p.m.

This will be the first year the organization has presented the Willie Mac Award since Willie McCovey’s death. The Hall of Fame first baseman died on October 31, 2018 after a long battle with ongoing health issues.

Ticket prices for the last week of games this season are expected to fluctuate, but they are expected to be far more expensive than the $6 tickets that were available on StubHub this week for all three games against the Rockies.

The lowest-priced tickets on StubHub available for Friday’s game are $29 while the get-in price for Saturday’s game is $49. The most expensive game of the weekend is Sunday, as the cheapest ticket available on StubHub is $75.

Standing room-only prices for Sunday’s game on sfgiants.com were listed at $65 on Thursday at noon.
