Woman surrenders in skateboarder death

A Fort Bragg woman suspected in the hit-and-run death of a skateboarder last summer in Mendocino surrendered on Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Gina Bean. (Mendocino County Jail)

Gina R. Bean, 41, was booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury or death. She was released on bail Monday evening.

Bean is accused of driving the vehicle that hit 21-year-old Calum Hunnicutt (also known as Calum Pulido) on the night of July 18 as he rode his skateboard across Highway 1 at Little Lake Road.

Though CHP investigators impounded a Toyota pickup truck the day after the crash and said at that time that they had identified “a person of interest,” a warrant for Bean was not issued until Wednesday, Nov. 27.
