ANTIOCH — Days after a man was shot and killed here in an incident police are keeping a lid on, a suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.
The suspect, Vernon A. Louisville, 45, was charged Monday with murdering Joseph Lee Garrison, in a shooting that occurred in Antioch Dec. 4. Police haven’t disclosed what time or where the shooting took place.
Louisville was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The murder charge carries a gang enhancement, which could add 25 years to Louisville’s sentence if he is convicted.
Police haven’t disclosed a motive or provided other details about the case. The investigation is ongoing.
Back in July, more than eight months before Garrison was killed, Louisville was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder by the Contra Costa Sheriff’s office, court records show. At the time, a sheriff’s spokesman deferred questions to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office, which declined to comment.
Garrison’s killing was the 12th in Antioch this year, meaning the city’s homicide rate is at its highest since 2017, when there were 13.
