Ex-Packers quarterback Brett Favre on 49ers: ‘Kudos to them’

Brett Favre recently turned 50. He hasn’t thrown a football in anger in nine years. But he still recognizes a good team when he sees one. When the talk turns to the 49ers, Favre’s a fan.

“You know, in that (Saints) game, (Jimmy) Garoppolo, as well as (Kyle) Shanahan, we have to be perfect with our execution,” Favre said during a recent appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “We have to come away with points almost every time.”

How cool is that? Brett sounds fired up, practically inserting himself into the 49ers huddle.

“At home it’s a little bit easier. I’m not saying it’s that easy,” he said, “but it’s easier. Playing in an environment like that and trying to match Drew Brees and what their offense does, is virtually impossible, but yet they did it. Kudos to them.”

Quarterback to quarterback, Favre, a three-time MVP and Hall of Famer, said he’s impressed with Jimmy Garoppolo.

“If you’re (49ers GM) John Lynch, you go, ‘This is what I signed the deal for. This is the type of guy we expected and we hoped to see at some point.’ I don’t know if he can play any better. You’re right. There have been some struggles. I’m impressed with him. Being the highest-paid player, the focus, the pressure is on him tremendously and I think he’s handled it well.”

If you can’t guess what Favre thinks of George Kittle, you just haven’t paid attention.
