Man stabbed, woman punched in attempted Northern California carjacking

CHICO — A man suffered a stab wound to his torso Friday before a suspect attacked a woman in an attempt to steal her vehicle.

William Earl Castor, 26, of Chico, was arrested on suspicion of an attempted carjacking and taken to the Butte County Jail where bail was set at $100,000.

At around 5:30 p.m. Friday, a man stabbed another man before running away from the scene, said a press release issued by the Chico Police Department. The stabbed man was taken to Enloe Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.

Medics near the stabbing location saw a man running on the bike path near Burnap Avenue who matched the description of the stabber.

Shortly after, a man matching the description of the stabber attempted to steal a woman’s vehicle. He punched her in an attempt to gain access, the release said.

Officers flooded the area near the scene of the stabbing and heard a woman screaming. She told police she managed to get away from the suspectin her vehicle without being injured further or having her vehicle stolen.

According to the release, Castor was found hiding in a nearby backyard.

An investigation is being conducted by the Police Department into the matter to see if the two incidents were related.
