Home in Monticello Terrace burglarized

FREMONT — At least one person entered a home and made off with several items of value before leaving behind a shattered front door during a burglary Thursday night in the gated territory of Monticello Terrace, police said.

Police did not say how many people they believe were involved in the burglary of the home in the 600 block of Monticello Terrace, but they theorized that whoever committed the crime walked a good distance to do it.

The home is more than 10,000 square feet and located in a gated community with other similarly spacious multi-million dollar homes. The community sits on a remote road just north of Ohlone College, and many of the homes back up into open space.

Officers found the shattered rear door to the house when they arrived, following a call at 6:18 p.m. that the house had been burglarized, police said. The home owner reported several other unspecified items missing, police said.

Police searched the area and the hillside with police dogs and more than one drone but came up empty. Police said whoever committed the crime “likely parked in a remote area and then walked [or] hiked to the residence to commit the burglary.”

Fremont police are investigating with the help of East Bay Regional Parks police. They urged anyone with information to call the Fremont Police Department’s Investigative Unit at 510-790-6900.
